Johnny Sauter Wins the PPG 400 at Texas Motor Speedway

With this win, Sauter is now listed second for all-time wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at TMS.

Johnny Sauter captured his fourth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win in 2018 Friday night at the Texas Motor Speedway track. With his win, Sauter is now listed second for all-time wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway.

Better Lucky Than Good

Sauter said he ran out of gas going into turn three, but it picked up and started up again in the banking and then shut off coming out of four. He was able to hold off a final lap charge by pole winner Stewart Freisen to win the PPG 400 by 0.092 for his fifth win at TMS. The 0.092 also set a track record as the closest finish for the truck series at TMS. The win was Sauter's fourth of the season, tying his career win total last year; and with 15 more races to go this season, the chances of Sauter's win total increasing is quite likely.

When team owner Ron Booth was asked for his opinion about the win, he said, It was a testament to all the guys at the shop, and Mike Beem, and the program that has been ongoing for the last two years. It's a big night for us. When Sauter was asked about being a lock going into Homestead with his four wins, Sauter humbly responded, I have been racing my whole life and nothing is never a lock ... anything can happen. Racing is one of the most humbling sports in the world.

The Fastest Truck Doesn't Always Win

Stewart Freisen in his Chevy Silverado was the shiny penny all day, but sometimes you need a little luck to win races at this level. He won his first pole on asphalt ahead of three Kyle Bush racing Toyotas. He then won the first stage, finished second in the second stage, and was an eyelash away from winning the race.

It's Not How You Start, But How You Finish

Toyota had the most trucks qualified in the top ten taking five of the ten spots with Todd Gilland the top Toyota. The finishing order looked considerably different with Chevy taking the top three spots followed by two Fords. The highest-finishing Toyota in sixth was again Todd Gilland in the Kyle Bush Racing Toyota Tundra.

The trucks will go from racing the 1.5-mile high-speed trioval in Texas to the 7/8 mile oval at Iowa Speedway next week.
