Review: 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 Premium

Inspired by its racing heritage, the reintroduced grand tourer now offers more grades, more engines, and more power.

Toyota has unabashedly added extra options to its reintroduced GR Supra giving it more grades, more engines, and more power. An ultra-modern cockpit offers a high-definition color display of consolidated critical information while included convenience features consist of keyless entry, rear camera, rain-sensing wipers, garage door opener, dual-zone climate control, and more. Available safety options include dynamic cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and parking sensors; while an available technology package features an 8.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system. Inspired by GR Supra's racing heritage, the 2.0 features a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at 255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque; and the distinctive double-bubble roof design reduces drag by shaving the roof center. Supra is available in expressive colors suitable for a high-performance sports car, and the potent new engines quickly achieve 0-60 in 3.9 seconds (5 seconds for 2.0) with an electronically-controlled top track speed of 155 mph.

Grade Levels

  • 2.0

Inspired by the brand's well-established racing heritage, the GR Supra 2.0 features an all-new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated at 255 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque as well as a compact length that achieves a perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. The standard 8.8-inch display screen with Supra Command and USB connectivity can be easily upgraded to an available 8.8-inch touchscreen offering touchpad control with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay® compatibility, voice recognition, and more.

  • 3.0

The alternative 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine model has received a notable power upgrade and retuned chassis so that the responsive engine now delivers an impressive 382 horsepower and 368 lb.-ft. of torque. A solid new safety and technology package available on 2.0 and 3.0 grades is comprised of dynamic cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking sensors, navigation, JBL audio, and more.

  • 3.0 Premium

Enjoy premium treatment with 14-way heated power-adjustable black leather-trimmed sports seats, unique sport pedals, full-color head-up display, and a standard 12-speaker 500-watt JBL HiFi surround sound audio system along with Brembo® 4-piston fixed-caliper disc brakes with sport-style red-painted calipers and silver Toyota Supra logo.

  • A91

The iconic sports car lineup is further widened by the limited-availability GR Supra A91 special edition signified by a 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, rear black carbon fiber lip spoiler, matte black wheels, red Brembo® brake calipers, and a choice of two exterior paint colors including Nocturnal or the grade-exclusive Refraction designed to complement accompanying black Alcantara® leather-trimmed interior with blue contrast.

The 2020 GR Supra broke from the model's traditions in several areas, and the 2021 version seems to do it again.

In the News

Source: Toyota | The 2020 Toyota GR Supra brought the revered model back in a blaze of speed, with acceleration and handling performance that outshone even its illustrious A80 predecessor. For 2021, Toyota is keeping the pedal down, boosting output of the Supra's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from 335 hp at 5,000-6,500 rpm to 382 hp at 5,800-6,500 rpm, a 14-percent increase. Torque rises from 365 lb.-ft. at 1,600-4,500 rpm to 368 lb.-ft. at 1,800-5,000 rpm. The increased output results from a slew of upgrades throughout the engine. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, improves heat management. A new piston design reduces the engine's compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1. The greatly revised engine produces higher torque at higher rpm and retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness. Toyota projects that the new engine will reduce the Supra 3.0 model's 0-60 acceleration time to 3.9 seconds, from 4.1. The 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters carries over for 2021.
