Ford Introduces New ST Branding with Faster Edge ST

The performance-enhanced SUV will be the first Ford has built for the fast-growing SUV segment.

I had a chance to drive the all new Ford Edge ST before the rains rolled into Dallas this week. The performance-enhanced SUV will be the first Ford has built for the fast growing SUV segment.

The development of the power plant for this new midsized SUV wasn't left to chance. The Ford Performance Team was brought in to develop the most powerful V6 in the segment. The team was able to stuff a 2.7-liter twin turbocharged EcoBoost engine that creates 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque into the same spot were the 2018 2.0-liter grocery getter used to reside. It will come standard with all wheel drive that is driven by a quick shift 8-speed transmission and an aggressive throttle response that will allow drivers to hold gears near redline through cornering. There will be a selectable traction control system and resonant exhaust tone similar to what the Mustang has.

Because of the extra ponies under the hood, the Edge ST will feature an upgraded performance brake package, ST-tuned sport suspension, and unique 21-inch tires. And not only will it be the fastest, but it will be the smartest as well. Every Edge model will come standard with more driver-assist technology than any other midsize SUV. To complement its performance abilities, Edge ST features new front and rear styling, a wide mesh grille for optimal cooling, deep side skirts and dual-exhaust outlets.

Edge ST puts a new animal on the road – a performance SUV with a track mentality, said Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing. From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive.
